Yes, though it is a full day, usually twelve hours door to door. The drive over the Tizi n Tichka pass takes about four hours each way, which leaves a solid few hours at the kasbah and in Ouarzazate.
What is Ait Ben Haddou?
A fortified earthen village on the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Its towers have stood in for half the ancient world on screen, from Lawrence of Arabia onwards.
Is the Atlas Film Studios visit included?
The route passes the studios and a visit can be added, with the entrance paid on the day. Some travellers prefer to skip it and spend the time inside the kasbah instead.
How difficult is the walk up Ait Ben Haddou?
The climb to the granary at the top is steep and uneven but short, maybe twenty minutes at a slow pace. You can also stay on the lower lanes, which are flat and just as photogenic.
Is the Tizi n Tichka road difficult?
It is a mountain pass at 2,260 metres with plenty of switchbacks. If you are prone to motion sickness, sit in front and take something before you leave. In winter it can close briefly after heavy snow.
Would it be better as an overnight trip?
If you have the time, yes. Staying near Ait Ben Haddou means seeing the kasbah in evening light and at dawn without the coach traffic, and it puts you halfway to the desert if you continue south.
