The Ouzoud Waterfalls day trip from Marrakech takes you to the highest falls in North Africa, a 110-metre cascade dropping into a green gorge in the foothills of the Middle Atlas, about 150 km from the city. Your driver picks you up at 9 am and the scenery changes on the way, from the Haouz plain to olive groves and red-earth villages — Ouzoud means “olive” in Tamazight.

At the falls you walk down the stepped path through the olive trees to the base, where small boats take you close to the spray, and you will probably meet the Barbary macaques that live in the gorge. Lunch on a terrace facing the falls, an optional walk with a local guide to the old water mills, then the drive back to Marrakech in the afternoon. More in our Ouzoud guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you book

How much does this day trip cost?

This day trip starts from €39 per person. The final price depends on your date and the size of your group: send us your date and number of people on WhatsApp (+212 661-757505) and we confirm the price quickly. Payment is in cash on the day, in dirhams or euros.

How far are the Ouzoud waterfalls from Marrakech?

Around 150 kilometres north-east, about two and a half hours each way through the Middle Atlas foothills and olive country.

How tall are the Ouzoud falls?

Roughly 110 metres, dropping in three stages into a green gorge. They are the highest waterfalls in Morocco and run year-round, though they are at their fullest in spring after the snowmelt.

Is there a lot of walking involved?

Yes. A stepped path descends through olive groves to the base of the falls and back up again, which takes most people about forty minutes each way. Closed shoes with grip are important, as the lower steps stay wet.

Will I see the monkeys?

Very likely. Wild Barbary macaques live in the olive groves along the path and are used to visitors. Do not feed them and keep bags closed, as they are quick and entirely unsentimental about snacks.

Can I swim at Ouzoud?

Swimming in the plunge pool is possible in summer, and small boats take visitors close to the base of the falls for the spray. The water is cold year-round, so bring a towel if you plan to get in.

When is the best time to visit Ouzoud?

March to June, when the flow is strongest and the gorge is green. Summer is hotter but the falls are refreshing, and autumn is quieter with lower water.
